Birligin Sesi, (Sound of Unity)

dance and music group, Turkey

Birligin Sesi the Turkish "Sound of Unity" dance and music group performing in Denizli, (west Turkey) 2000.

This multicultural dance group performing since 1996 consists of about 20 youth from all over Turkey who meet about once a month to perform or practice. They have performed more than 120 shows within Turkey, Europe and the Balkan's.

Most dances are influenced by the other Bahá´í Youth workshop dances, such as the Clip Clap Dance, the Poverty Dance and the The Abuse Dance while others are adapted for a Turkish audience such as the "Multi-Culture Dance" where they perform a number of folk dances.

Two of the current members perform as dancers professionally. New members come each year and generally seven or eight members remain to pass on the skills to the new youth. This workshop is very popular in the Turkish Bahá´í community and in some cities they are well known enough to be invited by organizers to perform at cultural festivals.

The National Spiritual Assembly has produced a video CDrom of their dances along with interviews with some of the youth.

The group is also active in different international projects and other national projects such as the World Congress of Youth for Habitat-II, the Turkish national holiday for children (23th of April), and the Turkish Spring Celebrations at the University of the Middle East in Ankara.
