Conrad Reina, born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, began his art career at the age of 16 under the guidance of his teacher, Dr. Frank Katz. He received his BA in Sculpture from Pratt Institute, New York, and his MA in Literature from Columbia University, New York.
Between 1975-1993 he created a design for the sculpture Droichead na h-Aislinge (Bridge of Vision). His exhibitions include "Oriental Resonance", Chester Beatty Galleries, Dublin in 1998. Droichead na h-Aislinge (Bridge of Vision) The theme of this sculpture, which is dedicated to Bahá'u'lláh, is World Unity, the most pressing need of the age. The initial impression which Droichead na h-Aislinge (bridge of visions) will convey will be of grace and majesty. The more subtle aspects of the work will reveal themselves as the viewer takes more time. The overall length is to be 34 metres. The materials from which it will be made are as varied as its themes: steel, wood, enamel, stone, concrete, copper, and paint. << The Celtic Flame Pillar includes calligraphy in Irish which, translated,
reads:
Cross this bridge, For it is built to carry your soul to its home. This is the same spirit behind Droichead na h-Aislinge. It is a symbol of the bridge everyone must cross, either in this life or at death, between the world of dust and the world of the spirit. The figure of Christ, from the Book of Kells, is pointing to a glowing book to the right titled: "The Hidden Words of Baha'u'llah". |
