Baha'i to honor pair from Milwaukee

iTwo Milwaukee men will be honored at 7:30 Saturday at the Baha'i House of Worship in Wilmette, Ill., as recipients of the 1997 David Kellum Award, celebrating the achievements of the late Baha'i city editor of the Chicago Daily Defender.

David K. Braden, producer of the Po' Davy young people's television show, and Olusegun Sijuwade, a public health educator for the Milwaukee Health Department, share the award this year.

Braden's weekly show -- which airs at 5 p.m. Fridays on MATA, Milwaukee cable channels 14/47 -- features the talents of young Milwaukee rappers in a program designed to encourage inner-city youngsters to stay in school, stay away from drugs and develop their talents.

Sijuwade is being honored for organizing "safe nights," which train young people in preventing violence, at the Milwaukee Baha'i Center, 2526 W. Vliet St.

To reserve a free bus ride to the Wilmette ceremony, call 351-2762. The bus will leave from the Milwaukee Baha'i Center at 5 p.m. today.
