Baha'i to honor pair from Milwaukee
iTwo Milwaukee men will be honored at 7:30 Saturday at the Baha'i House
of Worship in Wilmette, Ill., as recipients of the 1997 David Kellum
Award, celebrating the achievements of the late Baha'i city editor of
the Chicago Daily Defender.
David K. Braden, producer of the Po' Davy young people's television show,
and Olusegun Sijuwade, a public health educator for the Milwaukee Health
Department, share the award this year.
Braden's weekly show -- which airs at 5 p.m. Fridays on MATA, Milwaukee
cable channels 14/47 -- features the talents of young Milwaukee rappers
in a program designed to encourage inner-city youngsters to stay in school,
stay away from drugs and develop their talents.
Sijuwade is being honored for organizing "safe nights," which train young
people in preventing violence, at the Milwaukee Baha'i Center, 2526 W.
Vliet St.

bus will leave from the Milwaukee Baha'i Center at 5 p.m. today.
College's Male Chorus to give free concert The Male Chorus
of Northwestern College, St. Paul, Minn., will give a free concert of
sacred music at 6 p.m. Sunday at Waukesha Bible Church, S53-W24079
Glendale Road, Waukesha.
Zen Center plans meditation sessions On Sunday from 9 a.m. to
noon and 1 to 4 p.m., the Original Root Zen Center, 600 21st St., Racine,
will hold two half-day kidos, intensive meditation retreats that use
Zen-style chanting to clear the mind. Each participant is invited to bring
a percussion instrument. Those who wish to attend both sessions should
bring a sack lunch.
Blacks through ages to be topic of talk The Rev. Velma Smith,
pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, will talk about "Blacks --
Past, Present and Future" at a meeting of the Milwaukee Unit of Church
Women United at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 2207 N. 2nd St., at 10 a.m.
Feb. 26.
Mueller gets job at Missionary Movement Donald J. Mueller,
former director of world mission for the Milwaukee Catholic Archdiocese,
has been named national executive director for the Volunteer Missionary
Movement, an international, ecumenical missionary organization of lay
people.
Wittenberg Choir to perform concert The Wittenberg University
Choir from Springfield, Ohio, will perform Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Mass
in G Minor" as part of a free public concert at 7:30 p.m. March 3 at St.
Matthew's Lutheran Church, 1615 Wauwatosa Ave., Wauwatosa.
