RE: AUGUST DISPLAY FEATURES BAHA'I COMMUNITY
DATE: AUGUST 13, 1998
RELEASE: IMMEDIATE
For the month of August, the William T. Cozby Public
Library is featuring the Baha'i Faith and its global community in
the central display case in the library.
The Baha'i Faith is the second most widespread of the
world's independent religions, established in 235 countries and
territories throughout the world. They come from over 2,100
ethnic, racial, and tribal groups and number 5 million worldwide.
For more than a century, Baha'i communities around the
globe have been working to break down barriers of prejudice between
peoples and have collaborated with other like-minded groups to
promote the model of a global society. At the heart of the Baha'i
belief is their conviction that humanity is a single people with a
common destiny. The display highlights this theme by featuring the
words of Baha'u'llah, the Founder of their Faith, "The earth is but
one country, and mankind its citizens."
Adding to the global theme are decorative items crafted
from around the world. Books and other printed matter with the
Baha'i Sacred Writings, and themes of racial unity and the
advancement of women complete the display.
