West Virginia State College President Hazo W. Carter Jr. has received recognition from the college's National Alumni Association and the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'i of Charleston. The alumni organization cited Carter for his "outstanding leadership and tireless efforts" at the state and federal levels in regaining land-grant status for West Virginia State College. Howard Wilson, president of the Alumni Association, presented Carter with an engraved cherry wood clock during the association's biennial meeting in Chicago.

Most recently, Baha'i of Charleston honored Carter for his contributions to foster unity among all racial groups. The recognition came during the annual Race Unity Celebration, "Color Me Human" at the Embassy Suites.
