Bahai cemetery to be relocated

SEREMBAN: The Bahai burial ground at Jalan Sungai Ujong here will be moved to Sendayan to make way for a parking lot for the upcoming Seremban Specialist Centre.

Bahai Community of Malaysia director Dr I.S. Ludher said the state government had acquired the plot of land which was used as a burial land since 1960 for the Bahai community.

"The state government had gazetted a plot of land in Sendayan for the community to relocate the remains which had been buried at Jalan Sungai Ujong,'' he said yesterday after a devotional prayer service for the dead.

There were 55 graveyards, of which two were unmarked, located on six terraces at Jalan Sungai Ujong, he said.

"All the next-of-kin had been informed and they have agreed to the relocation,'' he said.

However, he pointed out that former politician Hu Sepang and his family would be conducting the exhumation and relocation of the remains of his father Tuck Sheng according to Chinese rites.

Hu, who was present at the prayer service, said the exhumation rituals for the remains of his late father would be held on Wednesday and the remains cremated and laid at the Nilai Memorial Park.

Dr Ludher said the hospital, Johor State Economic Development Corporation and the Negri Sembilan government had paid a token sum to help finance the exhumation and relocation of the remains.

He said six graves would be excavated daily over the next two weeks.

According to the Bahai Community of Malaysia secretary June Low, the Seremban Specialist Hospital is a joint venture between the Negri Sembilan Religious Department and the Kumpulan Perubatan Johor.
