Guidelines on worship sites to be made public
A GUIDELINE on worship sites for non-Muslims will be published and sold
in bookstores, said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong
Ka Ting.
In a move to show transparency, he said the book would be available in
bookstores soon for people to understand the guidelines.
Under the Town and Country Planning Department, Ong said space was
allocated for non-Muslims to have their religious sites.
He told Lim Hock Seng (DAP Bagan) that the allotted space would be a
hectare for 5,000 people.
Ong also said housing developers would have to reserve a site for
religious purposes.
To another question by Lee Kah Choon (BN Jelutong) on how to look after
the interest of minorities such as the Bahais, Ong said it would be
difficult for the ministry to ensure that each religion would have its
own site.
"Those who are interested in setting up temples or religious sites should
discuss with the local authorities,'' he said.
