Interfaith Council To Host Open Service
NEWHALL - The Santa Clarita Valley Interfaith Council will hold an
interdenominational Thanksgiving service Wednesday at Our Lady of
Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Newhall.
The theme of the 7:30 p.m. service is "Gratitude for Our Faith That
Gives Us Hope."
Those who attend are asked to bring a donation of a nonperishable food or
money for the needy in the community. Cash donations will be accepted on
behalf of the Santa Clarita Valley Homeless Shelter and food contributions
will go to the local Food Pantry.
"Hundreds of people have attended this event each year," said the Rev.
Stan Fix of Santa Clarita United Methodist Church, who is the president of
the interfaith council.
Among the congregations taking part in the service are Baha'i of Santa
Clarita, Church of Hope, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
Congregation Beth Shalom, Friendly Valley United Methodist, OLPH, Santa
Clarita United Methodist, St. Stephen's Episcopal, Seventh-day Adventist,
Science of Mind Center, United Methodist Church of Valencia and the Unity
Center of Santa Clarita Valley.
The service, in its 11th year, offers a rare opportunity for people of
different faiths to gather in prayer.
