Interfaith Council To Host Open Service

NEWHALL - The Santa Clarita Valley Interfaith Council will hold an interdenominational Thanksgiving service Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Newhall.

The theme of the 7:30 p.m. service is "Gratitude for Our Faith That Gives Us Hope."

Those who attend are asked to bring a donation of a nonperishable food or money for the needy in the community. Cash donations will be accepted on behalf of the Santa Clarita Valley Homeless Shelter and food contributions will go to the local Food Pantry.

"Hundreds of people have attended this event each year," said the Rev. Stan Fix of Santa Clarita United Methodist Church, who is the president of the interfaith council.

Among the congregations taking part in the service are Baha'i of Santa Clarita, Church of Hope, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Congregation Beth Shalom, Friendly Valley United Methodist, OLPH, Santa Clarita United Methodist, St. Stephen's Episcopal, Seventh-day Adventist, Science of Mind Center, United Methodist Church of Valencia and the Unity Center of Santa Clarita Valley.

The service, in its 11th year, offers a rare opportunity for people of different faiths to gather in prayer.

The public is welcome and refreshments will follow. For information, call (661) 259-2276.
