MIDEAST-HAIFA-BAHAI GARDEN
Picture taken 22 May 2001 shows the massive terraced garden in the coastal
city of Haifa. Thousands members of the Bahai faith came from around the
world to celebrate the grand opening of the garden consecrating the burial
site of the faiths founder. The gardens, tucked into the steep slopes of
mount Carmel, are designed in nine concentric circles around the shrine
where Bahai prophet Siyyid Ali Muhammad -- known to Bahais as 'The Bab' --
is buried. AFP PHOTO-SVEN NACKSTRAND
