Unity rally at Capitol Rotunda to feature Mayor Hasara, music

The fourth annual Race Unity Rally will take place at 1 p.m. June 3 at the State Capitol Rotunda.

The rally is sponsored by the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Springfield, the Springfield Dominican Sisters and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

Speakers include Mayor Karen Hasara; Peoria Mayor Lowell Grieves; Vibert White, professor at the University of Illinois at Springfield; Kathryn Harris, Illinois State Historical Library director; as well as speakers from the sponsoring groups.

Music will be provided by the Springfield Urban League Youth Choir and the Frank Trompeter Jazz Quintet.

Attendees are encouraged to gather at the Capitol Complex Visitor's Center at 12:15 p.m. and march together to the Capitol building.

The rally is endorsed by various groups, many of which will have literature and representatives at the rally, including the Urbana mayor's office, the Springfield Chinese American Association, Brother to Brother, Springfield Greens, National Image Inc., Springfield Chapter; Frontier's International Club of Springfield, the Coalition to Promote Human Dignity and Diversity, Grace United Methodist Church, and the United Nations Association, State of Illinois.
