Saying prayers for unity

THE Bahai Community of Kuala Lumpur organised a prayer service in conjunction with National Day celebrations at the Vistana Hotel Kuala Lumpur last Sunday.

About 300 Bahais and guests from all walks of life and those representing various religious groups took part in the three-hour prayer.

The devotional programme was organised following the call by Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism Datuk Kadir Sheikh Fadzir on all religious groups to hold special prayer services during the Merdeka month.

The session had four spiritual readings, prayers and chants in English, Chinese, Tamil and Bahasa Malaysia by the community choir group.

The theme of the prayer session was "Unity in Diversity". Prayers were offered to thank the Almighty for the peace, stability and harmony enjoyed by Malaysians.

Social activist Datuk Lee Lam Thye, a guest, spoke on the role of parents to educate their children about loyalty to the country, dedication to the King and to work for peace and harmony of the nation.

He said nothing was more important than unity among the people. As such, he added, everybody was responsible to ensure this.

The Bahai Community representative Kashminder Singh said the community took keen interest in organising the event as an expression of loyalty to the Government, a cardinal teaching of the Bahai Faith.
