Community forumon terror planned
BLOOMINGTON - A community forum on the aftermath of terrorism is scheduled
for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jesse Smart Auditorium at Jumer's Hotel.
The event is sponsored by Front and Center, a group that sponsors forums on
difficult topics.
Speakers will be Pantagraph Editor Jan Dennis, Keith Gottschalk of WJBC,
Health Department director Bob Keller and Red Cross volunteer Norma

Toys for Tots kickoff is set
BLOOMINGTON - The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve will kick off its annual Toys
for Tots campaign at 10 a.m. Tuesday at The Salvation Army in Bloomington.
The goal this year is to collect 10,000 toys for families in Central
Illinois. Donations may be dropped at any of 40 locations in the Twin Cities.
Sister Souljah inks appearance at IWU
BLOOMINGTON - Author and political activist Sister Souljah will be at
Illinois Wesleyan University as part of the Black Student Union's annual
Fall Weekend.
Her work will be discussed during an educational forum at 7 p.m. Nov. 15
in room C102 of the Center for Natural Science, and she will speak at 7
p.m. Nov. 16 in the main lounge of the Memorial Student Center.
Both events are free and open to the public.
Fall Weekend gives prospective multicultural students a preview of IWU.
Events include "Free Your Mind," a workshop that explores issues of
stereotypes and diversity; and "The Lyricist's Cypha: Umoja," which lets
students showcase poetry, musical and lyrical talents.
ISU plans event to mark recycle day
NORMAL - Illinois State University's University Recycling department will
show how much more could be recycled during an event planned for Thursday.
Student volunteers have been collecting trash from classrooms and other
locations since Nov. 5. On the 15th, the trash will be displayed.
Recycling bins are located throughout campus.
Weather permitting, the display will be set up outside of Schroeder Hall
on the ISU quad. Otherwise, the event will take place in the Bone Student
Center Activity Room.
The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Emergency response topic of ISU talk
Dan Nelson, assistant director of emergency management in Aurora, will
speak on basic responses to terrorism during a talk at 6 p.m. today in
Room 210, Moulton Hall, Illinois State University.
The event is sponsored by the Student Environmental Health Association.
Topics will include international and domestic terrorism, handling
public health crises, criminal investigations and threat assessment.
Holy Land security
discussion planned
NORMAL - Holy Land security practices will be the topic of a
presentation at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Cartwright Room of Illinois
Wesleyan University.
Chris Vodden will talk about his work as security manager for the
Baha'i World Center in Haifa and the nature of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Money available for
career development
NORMAL - The Heartland Regional Education to Careers Partnerships
has $40,000 for activities or projects on career development.
Educators, businesses, labor organizations and community-based non-
profit agencies are eligible to apply for up to $4,000.
