The local spiritual assembly of the Bahais over the weekend organised a leadership training workshop for sports leaders and team captains in Brufut and surrounding villages.

According to Robert al-Saih, programme facilitator of the course, Bahais have been developing and bringing out the potential and capacity of talented Gambians for the promotion of world peace. 'We promote unity and peace, as the well-being of man is unattainable, without peace and security' he said.

'The Bahais believe that man is blessed with inherent gems of intelligence, which should be nurtured and groomed to realise his potential' she said, stressing that the capacities could be developed through nurturing, determination and opportunity.

Another facilitator, Abu Kargo, said the workshop was aimed at inculcating God given virtues into sports leaders to promote peace in the sports arena.

It is one of a series of educational programmes conducted by the socio-cultural and socio-economic development of the nation, he said.Accordingly, he said the Bahais would be travelling countrywide to develop the potentials of sports leaders, as a way of promoting sports in The Gambia. 30 participants drawn from various teams in Brufut and surrounding villagers attended the workshop.
