Racine Islamic Center hosting interfaith event

The Racine Islamic Center will hold an interfaith panel and dinner at 2 p.m. Sunday in commemoration of W. Deen Mohammed Day with the theme "Our God and Your God is One and the Same" at the Racine Civic Center Festival Hall, 5 Fifth St., Racine.

Panelists include the Baha'i, Jewish, Islamic, Christian and Buddhist faiths. Wayne Johnson, Racine Interfaith Coalition president, is moderator. Reservations are not needed. Donations will be requested. Call (262) 633-9942.

W. Deen Mohammed speaking tonight

Imam W. Deen Mohammed, leader of the Muslim American Society, will speak on "How Islam Promotes Healthy Citizenship" at 7 tonight at the Midwest Express Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave. The free event is open to the public and will promote Clara Mohammed School's health fair, which is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at the school, 317 W. Wright St. Call (414) 263-6772.

Unitarians to mark Coming Out Day Sunday

First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, 1342 N. Astor St., will mark National Coming Out Day with services at 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. Sunday. A gay male and a lesbian will share their coming-out journeys. There also will be a forum at 10:15 a.m. featuring Neil Albrecht, executive director of the Milwaukee Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center, talking about current issues and inclusive environments. Haitian activist to speak at Cross Lutheran

Madame Viviane Nicholas, a Haitian activist who spent seven years in exile in Canada for challenging the government to maintain Haiti's African heritage, will speak at the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at Cross Lutheran Church, 1821 N. 16th St. She also will participate in the adult forum from 11:15 to noon and speak during a light meal at 12:30 p.m. The public is welcome at all events. She was a 1988 Gamaliel Chair recipient.

Former banker to play inspirational music

Steve Hall, an international artist and former bank vice president, will perform his inspirational piano compositions at 7 p.m. Tuesday at North Shore Congregational Church, 7330 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Fox Point. A $10 donation at the door is suggested.

Spiritual music offered at Unity West Church

Douglas Blue Feather, a songwriter and performer of contemporary North American flute music, will play spiritual music at a free performance at 7 p.m. Sunday at Unity West Church, 4750 N. Mayfair Road, Wauwatosa.

Program on menopause offered at Mount Mary

Voice of the Faithful to meet on south side

The public is invited to a meeting of the Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate of Voice of the Faithful at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Roman's Church, 1710 W. Bolivar Ave. Topics include challenges facing the church and plans related to three primary goals: supporting those who have been sexually abused by clergy; supporting priests of integrity; and shaping structural change within the Church. Author of book on black boys to address banquet

Jawanza Kunjufu, a noted lecturer and author of "Countering the Conspiracy to Destroy Black Boys," is the keynote speaker for the first annual educational honors banquet of the African American Association of Independent Schools Inc.

The theme of the banquet, scheduled for Friday at the Hilton Hotel, 509 W. Wisconsin Ave., is "Honoring the Founder of Choice," in honor of state Rep. Annette Polly Williams, a pioneer of the school choice movement in Milwaukee.
