Multicultural party to serve the cause of social justice

"Kaleidoscope," a multicultural party featuring international foods and entertainment, will benefit InterAct Cleveland-InterReligious Partners in Action of Greater Cleveland. It will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 13 at The Temple-Tifereth Israel, 1855 Ansel Road, Cleveland, in University Circle.

The Omo Ilu African dance and drumming troupe, the Cleveland Praise Ministry clown troupe, the Elders of Jazz, One Human Family Gospel Singers, Shri Kala Mandhir classical Indian dancers and the Cleveland Boy Choir will perform.

The organization, formerly called the East Side Interfaith Ministries, works for social justice and includes Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Baha'i and Unitarian Universalist congregations and faith communities.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for students and children 12 and up and $7 for children under 12. Call 216-361-5890.

Scavenger hunt

The annual scavenger hunt held by the Young Friends of the Cleveland Museum of Art will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at the museum, 11150 Wade Oval.

Partygoers will check out museum exhibits to hunt for specific artworks, then have beverages and appetizers in the museum's courtyard.

The Young Friends support group includes those age 20 to 40-plus who gather for social events, to volunteer and to promote the museum.

Thomas Jefferson

"Thomas Jefferson" and retired U.S. Rep. Louis Stokes will be the celebrity hosts of a party to benefit the History Museum of the Western Reserve Historical Society. It will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at the museum, 10825 East Blvd., Cleveland. The host is the organization's Women's Advisory Council.

Actor Steven Edenbo of the American Historical Theatre in Philadelphia will portray Jefferson, who was a Renaissance man - scientist, astronomer, musician, architect and author of the Declaration of Independence. When he was appointed ambassador to France in 1784, Jefferson engaged a cook to prepare the sauces and foods he loved. The dinner menu will feature foods typically served at Jefferson's table, and partygoers will be able to visit the museum's current exhibit, "Jefferson in Paris: Fashion on the Eve of the French Revolution." There also will be a silent auction.

Womankind lunch

The annual "Hearts & Hands Luncheon" to benefit the Womankind Maternal and Prenatal Care Center will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 19 at the Silver Grille restaurant on the 10th floor of the former Higbee's department store on Public Square. Entry is from 200 Prospect Ave. or through the third floor of Tower City Center.

Joseph Toner, an author, poet and teacher at St. Ignatius High School, will speak.

The event will feature a silent auction. Lunch, featuring old Silver Grille favorites, will be catered by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Through Womankind, volunteer doctors, midwives and nurses provide free services to women and families in financial and emotional need. The agency, in Garfield Heights, expects to provide services to 1,700 women this year.
