State of Nation Address - 29 October 2001 Africa committed to success of NEPAD, says MfaAssistant Minister in the Office of the President Olifant Mfa says Africa has already forged ahead in giving effect to the commitments made at the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development. He says the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) is a sustainable development programme. Mfa was speaking at a lunch in Gaborone to commemorate the United Nations day at the invitation of the Spiritual Assembly of the Bahai of Botswana. He said the success of the Johannesburg Summit and NEPAD in Africa will depend on world peace as well as effective strategies for conflict resolution. He said Botswana is fully committed to the NEPAD programme and the outcome of the sustainable development summit. Mfa further said the Bahai faith has an important role to play in promoting family values based on Botswana's culture as well as teaching youth spiritual values and morals. He called on religious organisations to join hands with the government and people of Botswana in the fight against HIV/AIDS. BOPA
