Haifa Bahai Gardens tops popular sites list

Haifa's Bahai Gardens, are among the most popular tourist site in Israel, boasting as many as 690,000 visitors in 2002 alone, according to data presented by the Bahai Center. A site with probably more visitors, but no official count, is the Western Wall in Jerusalem, which the Ministry for Religious Affairs estimates was visited by 1.5 million people last year. Sites like the Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem, visited by nearly two million people in 2000, only attracted 567,000 in 2002, largely due to the security situation. (David Ratner)
