Interfaith Roundtable group plans 2 events

Feb. 2-9 has been proclaimed Interfaith Week in Utah, and two special events are planned by the Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable group (formerly the SLOC Interfaith Roundtable).

On Saturday, Feb. 8, 3-5 p.m., there will be a reception and author book signing on "A World Of Faith: World Celebration Special Edition" by Peggy Fletcher Stack and Kathleen Peterson at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Gateway.

Then, on Feb. 9, 7:30 p.m., the second annual "Interfaith Musical Tribute to the Human Spirit," is scheduled in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. This event is free and open to the public.

"The Roundtable planned the tribute as a legacy event to be held again this year, so more people could experience this interfaith service," said Jan Saeed, chair of the Roundtable. "We're bringing back groups from last year and adding new participants. And we've moved to a larger space — the historic LDS Tabernacle on Temple Square."

Last year, the Tribute brought local faiths together on the Sunday night just before the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, resulting in an unforgettable service.

This year's tribute will feature musical groups and representatives from more than two dozen local faiths. Performances and blessings will include American Indian flute music and chants, the Orchestra at Temple Square, Hindu prayer, St. Paul's Episcopal Church Choir, Rondalla Ariez Spanish Choir (Catholic), Baha'i prayer, Utah Valley Mass Choir (gospel), Christian Science prayer, Cambodian dancers (Buddhist), Islamic prayer, Wesley Bell Ringers (Methodist), Mass singing, and music of the Tabernacle organ.

Tickets are available now, from the Catholic Diocese (Bridget Clare McKeever, phone 328-8641, ext. 362), and the LDS Church Conference Center (box office, door 4, west side) see www.LDS.org/events. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. All unused tickets will be released at 7:20 p.m., and standby seating is available.
