Soulful call-up for Singh

SIKH Gurdarshan Singh, 60, is the first non-Christian chosen to lead the Interfaith Network of the City of Greater Dandenong.

He will be assisted by former MP Max Oldmeadow who has been elected as the network's chairman for the third time.

Mr Oldmeadow represents Trinity Uniting Church, Dandenong.

Major faiths represented include Baha'i, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, and spiritual organisations Brahma Kumaris, and, Sathya Sai.

The network recognises the Kulin Nation people as the traditional owners of the Dandenong area which is the land of the Bunurong people at the present time held in custodianship by the Wurundjeri people.

"We respect that the traditions of these people are very much alive," Mr Singh said.

Network also holds an annual gathering of schools.
