'Many Faces of God' at TCC

TOWNSEND -- The Deacons of the Townsend Congregational Church will host a discussion of the world's religions on Thursday, March 13, and Thursday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. on both evenings. Speakers from the Jewish, Muslim, Baha'i and Buddhist faiths will be making short presentations of their faiths, followed by an open discussion. The purpose of this event is to educate, raise awareness and increase understanding and tolerance of some to the world's major religions.

The presenters have been asked to share the basic tenets of their faith. They have also been asked to explain the diversity and commonality their faiths have with Christianity. The role of their scriptures, forms of worship, and holidays will also be explored.

The March 13 program will feature Peter Gorge, a Jewish man, as well as Rijel Lusheuk, a practicing Baha'i woman. The April 3 program will welcome Mohammed Lazzauni, a Muslim, and Bill Sawyer, a Catholic studying and teaching Buddhism.

This program is an attempt to bring understanding to our world's religions. As our nation marches toward war with Muslims in the Middle East there is still hope for understanding. As Prof. Hans Kung said, "Until there is peace between religions, there can be no peace in the world."

Before each program, there will be an informal potluck supper starting a 6:30 p.m., followed by the presentations and discussion, beginning at 7:30. Each evening's event is expected to last two hours. For more information, please call the Townsend Congregational Church at 978-597-8925 Tuesday through Friday between 9 a.m. and noon.
