THE Forest EcoCentre at Scottsdale won an unprecedented three major awards in the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Awards, presented in Hobart last night.

Designed by Morris Nunn & Associates, the EcoCentre won the Commercial Architecture and Environmental Design Awards and also the award for the most innovative use of steel in architecture for their ecologically designed building.

This is the first time one project has taken out three awards.

The jury considered the Forest EcoCentre to be a provocative, innovative and inspiring building that sets a new benchmark in ecological design.

The University of Tasmania's new Academy of Arts at Inveresk received both the Public Buildings and Heritage Architecture Awards.

Jack Birrell Architects received the Residential Award with "Camp Site-Douglas River Residence".

The James Blackburn Triennial Award for Residential Architecture, awarded every three years and considered the highest achievement in domestic architecture went to joint winners.

This year it was presented to the "Bennison Read House" by Leigh Wooley and Craig Rosevear Architects and to "Andrew and Jen's House" by 1+2 Architecture.

Cam Clifford received the SWT Blythe Student Award for his project, Tasmanian Baha`i Community Centre.

The RAIA Awards recognise the best architect designed building projects in Tasmania from the past year.
