Baha'i Assembly buys Wheeling warehouse

The National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'i has purchased a 16,000-square-foot industrial facility on Wheeling Road as part of its maintenance program for its Wilmette temple.

The building was purchased from Avenues of Independence, a non-profit organization, which moved to a larger facility on Mercantile Road in Wheeling. Norman Ross, who represented the seller, said the religious order plans to stay in the building for the next few years.

"They're going to use the building over the next seven or eight years to help keep their (Wilmette) building in tip-top shape," Ross said. "It's rare for two non-profits to get together for a deal like this."

The building, on 1415 Wheeling Road, was never vacant, Ross said, as National Spiritual Assembly of Baha'i was able to move in right when Avenues to Independence was ready to move out.
