World peace is theme of Baha’is annual reunion in Glenwood Springs
Founder found rest in resort town in 1912
Staff Report
The Glenwood Springs Daily Avalanche issue of Sept. 30, 1912, carried this story. “Abdu’l-Baha Abbas of Persia, lecturer and
philosopher, stays in Glenwood Springs a day and enjoys the cave baths.”
Every year the Baha’is come to celebrate the visit of Abdu’l-Baha, son of the Prophet Baha’u’llah, to Glenwood Springs. In all his
stops in America, this was the only one where he rested.
“We have been in many places during our journey but we had no time to see the sights,” he said. “We had not even a moment’s rest.
Today, however, we have had a little respite.”
He bathed in the Vapor Caves and upon leaving the baths he looked at the mountains and river and remarked that such scenes were much loved
by Baha’u’llah.
In 1912, this is what Abdu’l-Baha told the Avalanche reporter: “The earth is small compared with other planets ... The sun is a million
and a half times larger than this earth and the sun is the same to other planets. So, doesn’t that prove clearly that this earth that we
are living on is a small world after all?
“How insignificant this world is when it comes to the East and the West, don’t you think? In our estimation, it is one East and one West
combined. And on this earth all are human kind and no distinction at all for we are descendants from the family of Adam.”
The theme is even more pertinent now. The Baha’is will again gather this year at the Hotel Colorado to commemorate the visit of
Abdu’l-Baha and to discuss the process of world peace. The discussion will rely heavily on “The Promise of World Peace,” written by the
Universal House of Justice of the Baha’i faith to the peoples of the world.
On Saturday, Dec. 20, from 6-8 p.m., at the Hotel Colorado, in the Colorado room, there will be a public meeting to discuss the process of
world peace. All are invited. The booklet “The Promise of World Peace” will also be available.
