Dear Jonah,

There is not much that I can add to your insightful post. I'd like only to say that seeking for scientific meanings in Kitab-i-Iqan, is a waste of time, in my opinion, since this is certainly not the purpose of this book, which is quite mystical in nature.

Notice, that according the Iqan space of SEVENTY years is needed in order to transmute copper into gold. All we need is to do is simply to protect it in its own mine from becoming solidified.
However, in Gleanings (XCVII) Baha'u'llah says:
"Consider the doubts which they who have joined partners with God have instilled into the hearts of the people of this land. "Is it ever possible," they ask, "for copper to be transmuted into gold?" Say, Yes, by my Lord, it is possible. Its secret, however, lieth hidden in Our Knowledge. We will reveal it unto whom We will. Whoso doubteth Our power, let him ask the Lord his God, that He may disclose".
From this passage it becomes evident that although transmution of copper into gold is possible it's not easy and "Its secret, however, lieth hidden in Our Knowledge".

The fact that Baha'u'llah said in Kitab-i-Iqan "seventy years" ölife-span(?) of an average man, only shows that we should understand this passage metaphorically: copper is compared to a human being ("Likewise, these souls, through the potency of the Divine Elixir, traverse, in the twinkling of an eye, the world of dust and advance into the realm of holiness;").

Kindest Regards,
David
