An interesting "proof" that a marriage must be contracted between a man and a woman is given in the Kitáb-i-Aqdas. This has to do with the marriage verse which is an essential requirement for the marriage. Bahá'u'lláh was asked concerning the marriage verse and he responded with two verses with the same meaning, although the conjugation of the verb differs - one of the verses is masculine and one is feminine in the original Arabic. Besides this, it is specifically indicated that "For men" and "For women". This can be seen in the English text. It is number 3 in the questions and answers.
I know it is somewhat a round about way and probably not the most conclusive, but it is fairly straight forward in its implications.
