This is fundemental and very valid question and one that every Baha'i would probably give you quite a different answer to. Personally, I think that the starting point has to be Baha'u'llah Himself. Once you accept Him everything else kind of falls into place quite naturally. So, I guess the question you need to ask yourself is was He (Baha'u'llah) telling the truth when He claimed to be a Manifestation of God. When it come down to it there are only two choices - either He was or He wasn't.

Also, you may have already read it but, in case you haven't, you can find a very nice article below written by Abdul-Baha on proofs of the existence of God and the eternal soul.
