The lexemes look kind of like the ones from the 1668 system of John Wilkins, an early artificial language enthusiast (conlanger, as they call themselves on the 'net). But his lexemes were non-phonetic, the little squiggles all symbolized semantic changes. And they were written sideways from what this looks like... Just a thought.

In 1890 or thereabouts, Esperanto was obscure but Volapuk (add uplaut over the u) already famous. It uses the Roman alphabet, though (and mixes an English-derived vocabulary with a Latinate grammar). Wonder if this was what all the fuss was about? Did Baha and his friends read stuff like that?
