Just a quick post - I do believe the word Baha'u'llah used was fellowship, rather than friendship, which somewhat changes the meaning. Eschewing fellowship seems to mean to me that we should avoid that person's company, rather than merely avoiding being friends with them.

It is for our own protection, right?

I recall reading somewhere that if I am associating with someone, and they are neither benefitting from me, nor I from them, I should not waste my time. Anyone else know that quote?
