Hello all,

To my knowledge, no statement has been made about employing a maid in the household. However, a search through the letters of the Universal House of Justice and statements of the Guardian might turn up something (I suggest Ocean, it's a phat search program).

A quote from the above post:
"And even then, given that the transition from two wives to a one wife/one maid is a second-hand report by one of Guardian's secretaries, who was likely his one maid, the logic used in the quotation allegedly by Guardian is totally unacceptable. I show no disrespect here because the text is clearly attributed to a letter from his secretary and not in a speech by Himself or a Tablet or a Letter."

There is no mention of a maid in the first quote (from the Synopsis and Codification of the Kitab-i-Aqdas).

And, any statement written by a secretary of the Guardian was looked at by the Guardian before being sent out, hence it carries the same weight as if the statement was written in the Guardian's own hand. This is analagous to Baha'u'llah's method of revealing many of His Writings: Secretaries would take down the revealed Word, and Baha'u'llah would look over the transcribed Tablet and make changes where necessary. The Kitab-i-Iqan was transcribed by Abdul'Baha Himself on behalf of His Father. In brief, any statement written "on behalf of" the Guardian is from the Guardian, and thus authoritative.

And, I don't think we can say that his secretary was his maid: the duties of the two are very much different. And, the Guardian did not have one secretary, he had several in his lifetime from what I understand.

Take care all!
