And this unity is indeed difficult to achieve so long as a fundamental shift in thinking is not achieved. It it can only be achieved by a great power. As the Baháâí Writings indicate, it is the power of the Holy Spirit alone (and not merely words or even adherence to scriptures of the past which encourage unity) which can achieve this great unity. As some have pointed out already in their posts, Baháâuâlláh (being animated by the Holy Spirit), has achieved this unity among disparate groups, not only by declaring that the religions and races are one in essence and origin, but by bringing the spiritual force to achieve it.
From a logical point of view, it would seem that without a higher authority directing each group to find its own good in working for the benefit of not only the whole, but even specifically improving relations with the other group, each group will continue to focus on the others' responsibilities and voice its own grievances, whereas justice, what the Baha'i Writings term "the best beloved of all things", which fundamentally refers to the extremely rare quality of recognizing the truth even in one's "enemies", will be almost nonexistent.
As the Lord of the Flies concluded, although the presence of a parent may humble children to stop fighting (though even material parents cannot master this alone), who is going to be the parent of mankind? A higher authority is necessary, and in a global age, a higher authority encompassing the whole world is needed.
