Hello!

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS to the Routledge Encyclopedia of Nineteenth-Century Thought (0415 244196) (forthcoming, Winter 2003)

Please consider the following call for contributors and do feel free to
disseminate this message further.

In Winter 2003 Routledge will be publishing the Encyclopedia of Nineteenth-Century Thought edited by Greg Claeys (G.Claeys@rhul.ac.uk) of the Department of History, Royal Holloway, University of London, Egham, Surrey, TW20 0EX (phone: +44 (0)1784 443744).

Greg Claeys is looking for a contributor who is ready, able and willing to contribute a key 4000-word essay to the project to be entitled 'the main currents in philosophy in the nineteenth century'. (The essay, which should be accessible to an intelligent undergraduate, will need to be submitted to Greg by mid-December of this year.)

Other entries for which suitable contributors are being sought:
Russian Thought in the Nineteenth Century
Islamic Thought in the Nineteenth Century
The Body, Medicine, Health and Disease

A brief outline of the project follows but interested parties should seek further and better particulars direct from Greg Claeys.

many thanks!

PROJECT OUTLINE:
The Routledge Encyclopedia of Nineteenth-Century Thought will provide essential information on, and a critical interpretation of, nineteenth-century thought and nineteenth-century thinkers. The project takes as its temporal boundaries the period 1789Ã1914, but its centre of gravity will be the mid-century period. While the encyclopedias primary focus will be on Europe and North America, South and East Asia, and South America are also well represented. The Encyclopedia of Nineteenth-Century Thought will primarily cover social and political thinking, but key entries will also survey science, religion, law, art, concepts of modernity, the body and health, and so on, and will take into account all of the key developments in the intellectual history of the period.
