Dear Simcha,
Your heartfelt plea for answers to these questions moved me deeply and, although I might not be able to provide you with the ultimate answers, perhaps some words of encouragement will shift your focus on the darkness that is prevailing in the world to the light that also exists right here and now.
It has been explained to Baha'is by our authorities that the world is undergoing a twin process. On the one hand we see the rapid disintigration of an old world order. The symptoms you have described only scratch the surface of the disease. The reason they are now coming out in full force is do to their continuous supprssion throughout the ages. We can no longer ignore these ills and they must be treated whollistically. This is where we turn to the other process taking place. Baha'u'llah has given humanity the ultimate medicine and it is not only possible for these ills to be cured forevermore, but it's inevitable. Those who focus on the darkness in the world tend only to see the former aspect of this twin process, but the Baha'is have full faith in the power of Baha'u'llah and our eyes are opened daily by the revelation of new bounties continuously being poured out on the world.
This is not to say that the light that is unfolding is magical. Baha'u'llah has given us the tools to transform the world, but we must be the ones to act. This is the ultimate responsibility, but it is also the ultimate joy. Only those who have acted upon the commandments of God's Messenger for this day with complete faith in Him can attest to the joy and peace that such action brings.
It must be born in mind too that Baha'u'llah's Revelation is not only for a select few. He has come to regenerate all peoples and society itself. The potentialities enshrined in His Revelation are beyond our capacity to fathom. The future of humanity is glorious beyond our imagination, but in the future there will be no need to sacrifice to the degree that we must and , although people of that generation will attain degrees of spirituality that we can barely concieve of, they will marvel at the sacrifices we made in this day and age when all the world has arisen against the Lord of the Age.
So don't be affrraid in these dark times. Every evil and injustice in the world is the result of one thing: Mankind's rejection of the Manifestation of God for this age. It is the duty and great priviledge of every Baha'i to tell those who are unaware that their Lord has come and to demonstrate to the rest that He is the Promised One.
God Bless,
BK
