Brett's scholarship is never in question - but you should not allow his incredible fact-knowledge to imply either understanding or wisdom or an ability to reconcile paradoxes or contradictions. He has written (paraphrase) that since it is an absolute doctrine that the Writings do not contradict each other, then, when they are in literal contradiction, they are, in reality, not. A true believer, we can admire his devotion and unquestioning faith. Many others of us, however, were brought up to be both "faithful" and analytical, not to believe that if we question elements of the Faith, we are sinful. But perhaps we are - as Brett would have us believe.
