I really am not sure I understand the interest people have with the number of Baha'is living in a particular place and why that is at all controversial. We know that the overwhelming majority of Baha'is in India are on the rolls because of mass-teaching campaigns. The extent to which these individuals were integrated into the community and/or would self-identify themselves as Baha'is is probably unknown. All religious communities keep track of the number of people who "declare" themselves that religion, but don't remove that person from the rolls unless the person specifically asks. Would we have it any different? Everyone is aware of the fact that the Baha'i Faith is an overwhelmingly small religious minority in this world. It's diversity, vitality, and the remarkably distinct character of its scripture and teachings classify it as a world religion, though certainly a minor one.
