Dear friends,
Thanks for bringing this up, I appreciate your consideration. I know many people think about donating to help cover the operating costs, but refrain because they think others are covering it. Unfortunately that's not the case.
My family is very supportive of my decision to donate a large portion of my otherwise career time to constructing and maintaining this site, but it does of course require the trade-off that I'm not using these hours to earn money, as normal husbands do. My time, interest, and minimal expertise are what I have to offer to the project, and I would be most grateful if folks could help cover the actual out-of-pocket expenses. My new expenses this year were $1500 for two internet tech courses which I took exclusively for the purpuse of building the new site (PHP and SQL were the areas I hadn't known anything about, and PHP and SQL are the structural basis of the new site).
I'm not of course expecting $1500 in donations . . . I think a fair trade-off is to share a portion of any actual money users have saved by using the site. That is, if you were going to buy a book or journal but found it online at this site, you could share part of the money you saved.
If anyone wishes to follow up on this, I thank you sincerely for sharing. You can for my mailing address, or click on the PayPal icon at bahai-library.org/etc/support.html. I'm embarrassed to ask, to be honest, and wish it weren't necessary.
Regarding public acknowledgement, I intended the page Contributors and assistants to acknowledge those who contribute funds as well as those who contribute time or content. I'll be most happy to list anyone's name here, and provide a personal home page at bahai-library.org/personal.
Thanks! -Jonah
