Jonah writes that "less than one tenth of one percent of visitors contribute. But there is no counter on the site and no way to determine how many visitors there are. This small percent (<.001%) can only be accurate if there are at least one thousand visitors. You cannot have a .001% of less than 1000 people in all. That is, you cannot have a fraction of a human person. [rest of post deleted]Dear friends,
Thank you very much for your thoughtful discussion of contributions, and for your generosity. Please allow me to share two points.
1) First, the main counter is on the bottom left corner of the main page. This tracks only the number of times the main page itself has been downloaded. It currently shows 253,000, or an average of 100/day. Most accesses to the Baha'i Library are via search engines, and these average 100/day for the index pages (see last year's stats http://bahai-library.org/etc/files0902.number.html, and total about 800,000 per month. And I just recently discovered Alexa Rankings which, if I read them correctly, show that bahai-library.org is some months the most heavily-trafficked Baha'i site, surpassing (to my great surprise) even us.bahai.org and www.bahai.org. I think my estimate of 1/10 of 1% is on the low side, but I didn't want to appear to be exaggerating how many people use the site.
2) I must remind people that multiple pseudonyms is NOT allowed. I have no hesitation about moving to a registration-required bulletin board. I already have one picked out, PhpBB. It's quite secure and, because it's server-side PHP, it offers full IP tracing and blocking. As users saw last January, this bulletin board will be shut down if it becomes a source of misinformation or disinformation, or even disharmony.
Thank you very much, -Jonah
