What troubled me aobut cole's account:
When I attended my first fireside and my first lecture on Baha'i I was presented with an image of a man who lived in prison until he died, carrying a metal plate on his chest, with one blanket, in a damp Haifa prison cell. There was no mention of his release, freedom and the renting of houses or mansions and a life of luxury for the last years of his life.
Blinded by this presentation, even had I come across anything different, I didnt notice it until last week.
As for the issue of wives and children, while it makes me uncomfortable to think of Bahaullah making love frequently - this is neither a surprise nor a problem. The contrast with the Myths or Truths of Christ and Buddha as chaste (Buddha had a family which he left behind when he began his search) I confess their celibacy has a positive impact on me. Moses, though he had two wives, did not have children. Of Muhamed, we know he had at least four wives and many children. Of Adam, he had numerous children. Of Zoroaster, he was a monotheistic priest (supposedly) and there is no record of wives or children. Of Krishna, while mostly legend, had no wife and no children.
