Greatest Holy Leaf
|
Saintly women are venerated and revered by the faithful in many spiritual dispensations. For example, in Christianity there is the Blessed Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. In Islám there is Fatimah “the Shining One”, the daughter of Muhammad. In the Bábi dispensations here is Táhirih, “the Pure One", one of the Báb’s Letters of the Living, and for Bahá’ís there is Bahíyyih Khánum, the daughter of Bahá’u’lláh, known as the Greatest Holy Leaf. This video is a tribute to the Greatest Holy Leaf, but even a feature film could not do just to her remarkable and exemplary life. Instead this video presents passages pertaining to her from the writings of her father, Bahá’u’lláh, her brother ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, her grand nephew Shoghi Effendi, and passages from the diaries of two Western pilgrims. |

Juliet Thompson & Kahlil Gibran

Not only were Juliet and Khalil portraitists and writers, but they were both drawn to Arab and Persian culture, mysticism, and spirituality. Moreover, they both believed in the fundamental unity of religions. Juliet had been a Bahá'í for over ten years, and was among an early group of American believers who had made a pilgrimage in 1909 to the Holy Lands where she met Abdul-Bahá. As their friendship grew she eagerly shared what she had learned and experienced with Khalil, and he listened attentively. Thanks to Juliet, Khalil met and did a portrait of Abdul-Bahá. |
