About: This document identifies all the Qur’anic and Biblical quotes referenced by Baha’u’llah in the Kitab-i-Iqan as shown in its footnotes. It introduces in some cases the Qur’anic context surrounding their revelation and contains a brief discussion of each reference. Part I shows the references in the order they appear in the Kitab-i-Iqan, while Part II lists those same references in the order of their appearance in the Qur’an. The Biblical references, being very few are only shown in Part I.
It is hoped that this addendum will further enhance the study of the Kitab-i-Iqan, a Book which Baha’u’llah declares that “...All the Scriptures and the mysteries thereof are condensed into this brief account. So much so, that were a person to ponder it a while in his heart, he would discover from all that hath been said the mysteries of the Words of God, and would apprehend the meaning of whatever hath been manifested by that ideal King.” (Para. #266).
It should not be imagined that His Holiness Baha’u’llah had to look up these quotes from the holy Books of old; rather, as He explains Himself, “… Whenever We desire to quote the sayings of the learned and the wise, presently there will appear before the face of thy Lord in the form of a tablet all that which hath appeared in the world and is revealed in the holy Books and Scriptures...” (Lawh-i-Hikmat, para. #32)”
