Topic: Man's High Station
Page 1 This newsletter is dedicated to all seekers after the Eternal
Truth.
We know of the attention and guidance given to us by our loving God
throughout every age of our existence as the human race. At about this point,
you might be asking: Why did He bother? What's so special about us?
This issue will attempt some answers to these questions, through quotations
from the Bahá'í writings.
It might be appropriate to begin with a couple of quotations about
God's love for us and our creation revealed by God through
Bahá'u'lláh in the following passages from The Hidden
Words:
O SON OF MAN! I loved thy creation, hence I created thee. Wherefore, do
thou love Me, that I may name thy name and fill thy soul with the spirit of
life.1
O SON OF MAN! Veiled in My immemorial being and in the ancient eternity of My
essence, I knew My love for thee; therefore I created thee, have engraved on
thee Mine image and revealed to thee My beauty.2
These passages leave no room for any doubt regarding God's great love
for us. He loved us enough to not only create us, but also gave us an added
precious, priceless gift: He "engraved on thee Mineimage" and
what's more, He "revealed to thee My beauty." We, in turn, should always
keep this great gift in mind and try to live up to God's expectations for us.
The high destiny He so graciously bestowed upon us is shown in the following
passage:
O friends! Be not careless of the virtues with which ye have
been endowed, neither be neglectful of your high destiny...Ye are the stars of
the heaven of understanding, the breeze that stirreth at the break of day, the
soft-flowing waters upon which must depend the very life of all men, the
letters inscribed upon His sacred scroll. . . Beware lest anything withhold you from observing the things
prescribed unto you by the Pen of Glory. . .3
Just how high and wonderful is our station? Bahá'u'lláh
Himself answers that question: Were man to appreciate the greatness of his station and the
loftiness of his destiny he would manifest naught save goodly character, pure
deeds, and a seemly and praiseworthy conduct. If the learned and wise men of
goodwill were to impart guidance unto the people, the whole earth would be
regarded as one country. Verily this is the undoubted truth. This servant
appealeth to every diligent and enterprising soul to exert his utmost endeavour
and arise to rehabilitate the conditions in all regions and to quicken the dead
with the living waters of wisdom and utterance, by virtue of the love he
cherisheth for God, the One, the Peerless, the Almighty, the
Beneficent.4
It is indeed quite a high station with which we human beings have been
endowed: great honor, great responsibility and the possibility of great
achievements. The next encouraging passage illustrates that, even if we have
at one time become lax and slipped a little so that we are not as far along on
His Path as we should be so far in our life in this world, the potential is
still there and we can achieve it. The Seeker's Passage, Vol. I, Number 3, Page 2
O SON OF SPIRIT! Noble have I created thee, yet thou hast abased thyself.
Rise then unto that for which thou wast created.5
Finally, are these words of Bahá'u'lláh which
clearly state just how important we humans are to God::
But for man, who, on My earth, would remember Me, and how
could My attributes and My names be revealed?6
