21. The Háziratu'l-Quds in
Taipei
One of the goals of the Nine Year Plan which was given to the
National Spiritual Assembly of North East Asia was the acquisition of a
National Hazíratu'l-Quds in Taipei. The National Spiritual Assembly of the United States was to assist with this goal.
At the encouragement of Dr. Muhajir the Bahá'ís of Taipei found
a suitable site. It was an apartment on the third floor of a new building in a
good location. The purchase price was US$9,000, which was a considerable sum in
those days. The National Spiritual Assembly of the United States paid US$6,000
and the rest came from the National Spiritual Assembly of North East Asia and
donations. It was bought in time to hold the Naw-Rúz celebration there
in 1967. The first National Convention, the same year, was held in it.
The National Hazíratu'l-Quds in Taipei is on the third floor of
this building. This photo was taken not long after its purchase in
1967.
