David,
This one has to be quick so i will say it bluntly: Baha'u'llah can be a prophet of God because we believe that when a prophet does appear He conforms with the standards and customs of the time. If you want to know more about the circumstances of the Tablet of Wisdom examine the circumstances of its revelation and who the audience was specifically. If Baha'u'llah did not conform to the customs and knowlage of the day then people of the day would not have accepted Him! If a prophet appeared now and started telling all the historians they were wrong then people would focus on this and not His message and people would reject Him (just as you have for this reason but you are looking back in time and cannot appreciate context). Baha'u'llah is not the Prophet of history and science and besides, how could He quote a correct source IF THERE WERE NOT ANY AY THE TIME?
When a manifestation appears He must conform with human conditions (eating, sleeping sickness etc) and social customs. This is one of the veils which shut people out from Him, He is a human like us to the outward eye. But the relevant issue here is that He had to satisfy His immediate audience and this is what He did. This is a matter of social customs and accepted standards of the time. Baha'u'llah knew they were wrong that why He said I am quoting these people.
The solution is this. Ask God if Baha'u'llah is His manifestation. I did.
Keep Looking,
Morgan
