Dear All,
I am not sure whether voting in the UK is compulsory but in Australia you have no choice so an individual must legally cast a vote. I do not think that voting is in any way aligning ones self with a political party. The other Baha'is I have talked to here have told me that Baha'is are allowed to vote but not align themselves with any political party in the sense of membership, campaigning or sponsorship.
Grant raised a good point and if the situation with Hitler arose in Australia then I of course I would not vote for him. In fact, in the last 4 years something very similar did indeed happen! As an Australian citizen I have every right to have a say in how my counrty is run i.e. I can vote. As a Baha'i I do not become a member of any political party or campaign for it. The two are not synonymous.
Being a Baha'i does not prevent one from having a say in how their country is run and voting is not aligning ones self with a political party!
