Bahá'í Office for Religious and Educational
Affairs
SACRE Updates.
As promised, BOREA is keeping the community
informed of any new information it has regarding membership of
SACRE(Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education), in
England and Wales.
Our latest news is that two communities can be
added to the SACRE members' list: Redbridge and Lambeth. This
brings the number up to 38 of which we are currently aware. These
two communities are also interesting for another reason. Lambeth
Bahá'í community joined SACRE after the community
stated its reasons for wishing to be a member and gave impressive
details of its involvement in the life of the borough of Lambeth.
This was in February, and is therefore, the newest
Bahá'í representative. Congratulations! Redbridge
community on the other hand, has been heavily involved in SACRE for
many years and is a well-respected, hard-working and influential
member. Well done!
Involvement in SACRE does require a long-term
commitment and effort from the representative; the long-term
effects are probably incalculable, if the representative manifests
not only respect for the other religions, but wisdom in action and
steadfastly protects the name and status of the Faith.
Many of those listed are keeping BOREA updated on
a regular basis. This is very valuable for BOREA's information and
ultimately for the Faith in general. One Bahá'í SACRE
representative shared the information from the Bahá'í
Journal statistics of SACRE membership with his
non-Bahá'í SACRE contacts, to illustrate
Bahá'í achievements across the country! Some of these
representatives have actually "upgraded" their status (highest
status is `full voting', followed by `co-opted', then `observer').
If you do not yet have full voting status, do not despair: keep
working towards your goal, as you will have a greater say in the
decisions made in SACRE and a major impact on the progress of the
Faith in this country.
Please send any classroom materials you may have
made or have access to, to BOREA, even if it was for a specific
class, or it is very old! Your ideas could help many teachers and
children across the country. Finally, should you wish to publish
any material, nationally, in the field of education and it has any
relation to the Bahá'í Faith, it must first be sent
to BOREA, as an Office of the National Spiritual Assembly, for
review.
