A Half Million Years

by Dana Paxson

2021

1. Essay form

About "A Half Million Years": Shoghi Effendi, the Guardian and Interpreter of the Bahá’í Writings, stated that the duration of Bahá’u’lláh’s overarching Revelation would span the Dispensations of many Manifestations Who succeed him through time, to the extent of a half-million-year span comprising the Bahá’í Cycle. This essay explores the passages in the Writings referring to and supporting this powerful statement, and engages the realm of science to grant insight into some of the implications of its meanings.

2. Story form

About "A Half Million Years (Excerpted and Edited)": This narrative, through the eyes of a wayfaring explorer, turns the essay A HALF MILLION YEARS into a fantasy story. The source essay explores how, Shoghi Effendi, the Guardian and Interpreter of the Bahá’í Writings, stated that the duration of Bahá’u’lláh’s overarching Revelation would span the Dispensations of many Manifestations Who succeed him through time, to the extent of a half-million-year span comprising the Bahá’í Cycle. This derived story takes the narrating wayfarer through the same elements of discovery as does the source essay (above).
